The fact that Shiho has demanded more money from Yabuki due to the fact that Haruna is based off her made Yabuki cut the appearances and roles of Haruna further yes Shiho a beetch , and ultimately end the manga prematurely. However, as Saki Hasemi revealed in a comment in volume 18, they wished to get TLR back on track asap. Rumors are that they will just remove Haruna from the series, and it will be good to continue. And honestly, TLR is really great.

Artist Kentaro Yabuki also revealed in the volume that he thinks his next work will not be related to To Love-Ru. To-LOVE-Ru has long been one of the worst offenders in terms of ecchi schlock harem romcoms and their complete lack of meaningful romantic developments. It ran for just over three years, brazenly skirting the edge of acceptability for the magazine before getting axed. It got a complete non-ending, but that was understandable since they most likely already had plans for Darkness. What happened was that after getting axed in Jump , TLR jumped ship over to Jump Square , a monthly publication with much more relaxed standards.
I could have sworn there was a surprise announcement that Chapter 77 would be the last chapter for To Love-Ru Darkness. There was an announced sequel to Darkness. Suddenly, the point of ending it now looks like Hasemi Saki-sensei just wants a breather for the series instead of putting it on life support through unnecessary filters, which is a better choice, from most perspectives.
